Recurve Bows & Traditional Longbows
A bow is most important piece of equipment when shooting archery. Traditional archery uses two different types of bows: longbows and recurve bows. The recurve bow gets its name from the flowing tips which curve away from the archer. An easy way to tell the difference between a recurve bow and a longbow is to look at if the bowstring touches the bow’s limb. If the bowstring does touch the limb, then it’s a recurve bow.
While traditional longbows are not as powerful as compound bows, they do offer several advantages. A traditional or recurve bow is typically much lighter than a crossbow or compound bow which gives you an advantage during long treks. Traditional bows are also much simpler to operate and do not require tuning. They are great bows for beginners looking to improve on their basic archery skills. The advantage to buying a recurve bow is they can be more accurate than longbows. Recurve bows are cut to center to give the archer a “point and shoot” feeling.
If you are a bowhunter then you should always check your local game laws to see the minimum weight ranges (normally they are 35-45# for deer sized game). When choosing a bow for sale online you always want find one that does not require you to strain yourself when drawing.
