Sudden Death Auctions
How the sudden death auction format works, including timer extensions and bidding strategies.
What Is Sudden Death?
Sudden Death is a special auction format available on WeaponDepot live streams. In a Sudden Death auction, if a bid is placed within the final 30 seconds of the countdown, the timer automatically extends by 30 seconds. This extension repeats every time a new bid arrives in the final 30-second window, preventing last-second sniping and ensuring that the item sells to the bidder who truly values it most. You will see a SUDDEN DEATH badge on items using this format, along with an extension counter showing how many times the timer has been extended during the current auction.
Tips for Sudden Death Bidding
In Sudden Death auctions, patience is key. Since the timer extends on late bids, there is no advantage to sniping. Instead, set your maximum price before the auction begins and bid only up to that amount. Watch the extension count to gauge the competition level. If extensions climb rapidly, multiple serious bidders are competing. Consider whether the item is worth the escalating price. Jump bids that leap above the current high bid can sometimes discourage competitors, but be cautious about overpaying in the heat of the moment. Use the Quick Bid buttons for fast responses during the final seconds, and check the Bids tab in the chat panel to see the full bid history.
