Trust & Safety Guide
How WeaponDepot protects buyers and sellers through verification, escrow, dispute resolution, and compliance systems.
Seller Verification and Trust Signals
WeaponDepot employs a multi-layered verification system to ensure that sellers on the platform are legitimate and trustworthy. All sellers who list firearms must provide valid Federal Firearms License documentation, which is verified against the ATF's database before their account is approved for firearm sales. Verified FFL dealers receive a prominent verification badge on their profile, listings, and live streams, making it easy for buyers to identify licensed dealers at a glance. Beyond FFL verification, the platform tracks and displays several trust indicators for every seller: their overall rating based on buyer reviews, total number of completed sales, account age, response time, and shipping speed. These metrics provide a comprehensive picture of a seller's reliability and professionalism. Sellers who consistently maintain high ratings and fast fulfillment times may earn additional trust tier badges. The review system is designed to be transparent and fair. Only buyers who have completed a verified transaction with a seller can leave a review, preventing fake or malicious reviews. Both positive and negative reviews are displayed, and sellers have the opportunity to respond publicly to any review. This two-way dialogue helps potential buyers understand the full context of any transaction issues and how the seller resolved them.
Secure Transactions and Payment Protection
Every transaction on WeaponDepot is processed through secure, encrypted payment channels designed specifically for firearms and related products. The platform uses industry-standard encryption and tokenization to protect your financial information during checkout. Payment details are never stored on WeaponDepot's servers and are processed through PCI-compliant payment partners. For higher-value transactions, the platform offers an escrow-style payment hold where the seller receives payment only after the buyer confirms receipt and satisfaction with the item. This protects buyers from paying for items that are not as described, damaged in shipping, or never delivered. The escrow period provides a window for inspection before funds are released to the seller. All transactions generate detailed records including order confirmation, shipping notifications with tracking numbers, and delivery confirmation. These records serve as documentation in the event of any dispute. For firearms transactions, additional documentation is maintained to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations, including records of the FFL dealer designated for transfer.
Dispute Resolution Process
Despite best efforts by both buyers and sellers, disputes can occasionally arise. WeaponDepot provides a structured dispute resolution process to handle these situations fairly and efficiently. If an issue arises with a transaction, the first step is to contact the seller directly through the platform's messaging system. Many issues, such as minor shipping delays or questions about item condition, can be resolved quickly through direct communication. If the buyer and seller cannot reach a resolution, either party can open a formal dispute through the platform. The dispute process begins with both parties submitting their account of the issue along with any supporting documentation, such as photos, shipping records, or communication logs. A WeaponDepot resolution specialist reviews the case and may request additional information from either party. The resolution process typically takes 3 to 7 business days, depending on the complexity of the case. Possible outcomes include a full refund to the buyer, a partial refund, a return and replacement, or a determination that no action is needed. Both parties are notified of the outcome and have the opportunity to appeal if they believe the resolution was unfair. The dispute resolution system is designed to be impartial, with decisions based on documented evidence, platform policies, and applicable consumer protection standards.
Compliance, Prohibited Items, and Reporting
WeaponDepot maintains strict compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations governing the sale and transfer of firearms and related products. The platform prohibits the listing of any items that are illegal under federal law, including unregistered NFA items, stolen property, and items that violate import restrictions. Listings are monitored through a combination of automated screening and manual review to identify and remove prohibited items. Sellers are required to comply with all applicable regulations for the items they list, including age verification requirements, shipping restrictions for ammunition and certain accessories, and state-specific limitations on magazine capacity or feature restrictions. The platform provides sellers with tools and resources to understand and comply with these requirements. If you encounter a listing that you believe violates platform policies or applicable law, you can report it using the report function on any listing page. Reports are reviewed by the compliance team, typically within 24 hours. Confirmed violations result in the listing being removed and potential account sanctions for the seller, ranging from a warning for minor infractions to permanent account suspension for serious or repeated violations. WeaponDepot cooperates with law enforcement agencies when required by law and maintains records as required by federal and state regulations.
