Prior Course Credit:
ITFT will give credit for approved classes that offer 8 hours of credit. To ensure
complete compliance with the law and the each aspect is fully covered the only classes
offered will be complete 16 and 8 hour classes. ITFT feels even if you have had a class
that gives credit for firearm safety, it is worth reviewing safe handling of firearms;
therefore will not consider those classes for credit. ISP policy and rules do not have an
approved 12 hours class. The 16 hours of training set by the law is only a minimum and
therefore; a student could be required to do additional training if determined by ITFT
staff.
Passing the course consists of demonstrating proper, competent gun handling mechanics
and a passing qualification score. IL law and ISP rules advises students have to fire 30
rounds (10 rounds 5 yards, 10 rounds 7 yards and 10 rounds 10 yards) and hit the target
21 times (70%). ITFT interprets “hit the target” to mean rounds hitting the scoring rings
of the target. If 21 rounds do not hit the scoring rings or within the scoring rings (center
mass) of the target the student will NOT pass the qualification.
If you have any additional guns you want to qualify with bring them with you along with
100 rounds of factory ammo. Each additional weapon you qualify with will cost $30.00
each. List each weapon you plan to qualify with on registration form. (Qualifying with
multiple weapons is not required)
